My Support Worker: The Amazing Nathan Whitby
In the realm of support work, finding someone who truly understands you, cares about your well-being, and is genuinely invested in your happiness is like striking gold. For me, that person is Nathan Whitby, my support worker. Nathan has become more than just someone who helps me with daily tasks—he’s a friend, a confidant, and someone who makes every day just a little bit brighter.
The Connection We Share
What stands out most about Nathan is his ability to connect. It’s not just about ticking boxes or getting through a list of tasks; Nathan genuinely cares about how I’m feeling and what I need, both physically and emotionally. Whether it's through a quick text to check in or a thoughtful conversation over coffee, Nathan makes sure I know he’s there for me.
One of the things I appreciate most about Nathan is his consistency. It’s easy to feel like you’re just another client in a busy support worker’s schedule, but Nathan never makes me feel that way. He’s always present, always engaged, and always looking out for me. There’s a level of trust and respect that Nathan brings to our relationship that is incredibly valuable.
Our Adventures Together
One of the highlights of working with Nathan has been the fun outings we’ve had together. Nathan doesn’t just accompany me on errands; he turns them into adventures. Whether we’re grabbing a coffee at Cafe 63, playing retro arcade games at Netherworld, or enjoying a paint and sip class in Brisbane City, Nathan makes sure we’re having fun. He’s great at finding new and interesting things to do, which keeps our time together exciting and fulfilling.
One particular night stands out—our trip to West End. After a stop at Chemist Warehouse, we headed to Cafe 63 for some caffeine and conversation, which is always a good time with Nathan. We then went to Netherworld, where we played some awesome retro arcade games that took me right back to my childhood. The night ended with a visit to the Boundary Hotel for a 2-for-1 pizza deal—a perfect way to wrap up an evening of fun and laughter. What made it even more special was meeting another support worker, Bailey, and his client, which turned our paint and sip class into a memorable group experience.
Why Nathan is the Best
There are so many reasons why Nathan stands out as a support worker. For one, he’s reliable. I never have to worry about whether he’s going to show up or whether he’ll be in a good mood—Nathan is consistently positive, dependable, and ready to help.
But more than that, Nathan is just a great person to be around. He’s funny, caring, and always up for a good chat. He knows when to listen and when to give advice, and he’s incredibly supportive of my goals and interests. Whether we’re talking about life, planning our next outing, or just having a laugh, Nathan makes every interaction feel meaningful.
A Big Thank You
I’ve had my fair share of support workers over the years, but Nathan is in a league of his own. His dedication to his work, his genuine care for my well-being, and his ability to make every day better is something I deeply appreciate. Nathan, if you’re reading this, thank you for all that you do. You make a difference in my life every day, and I’m incredibly grateful to have you as my support worker and friend.
In a world where good support workers are hard to find, I feel incredibly lucky to have found Nathan. He’s not just a support worker; he’s a true companion on this journey, and I couldn’t ask for anyone better.
